Full Description
{1} This 'finial' is not a typical traditional garden ornament as it is in the form of a face ornamented urn of good quality surmounded by a tall pyramidal cover decorated with acanthus foliage and capped with a flame. The monument stands approximately 2m in height but is is not known whether it is a single piece or sections of two ornaments that have been joined together. Similar pieces have been found at Stowe Gardens and the National Trust has been advised that this and the other garden ornaments at Wood Burcote Court are replicas of the pieces that were acquired in the 1921 sale and that the originals have been dispersed elsewhere.
{2} Monuments from Stowe House were sold at auction in 1921 and were erected at Wood Burcote Court.
