Full Description

{1} Kelly's Directory 1936 states that Wood Burcote Court is a modern half-timbered residence in Elizabethan style. The House is constructed of oak from Stowe and Linford. The house contains much furniture of historical note.

{2} Both the house and the wooded garden were designed and laid out for Herbert Jackson-Stops around the end of The First World War. When Jackson-Stops acquired the site at Wood Burcote is uncertain. The large house that was constructed as his residence is attributed to 'Messrs Jackson Stops' and it is uncertain how much, if any, of the building he designed. He is first recorded as living there in 1919. Photo taken in 1921.
The house is a linear building orientated south west to north east with additions on each principal elevation. It is built with rough rendered walls with areas of timber framing and dark wood casement windows with leaded lights. How much of the building is timber-framed is uncertain. It is likely that part of the north wing is framed as the early photo shows the south west elevation to be jettied.

{3} A level 3 building recording survey was undertaken prior to redevelopment/alteration. The house was in a poor state of repair and only some of the original fixtures and fittings remained intact.
