Full Description
{1} A very fine stone urn with spiral fluting filled in the lower third in a similar fashion to some classical columns. The foot, neck and lid have been carved with leaf decoration. It has a good quality stone pedestal faced with stone slabs which appears to be contemporary with the urn. The whole ornament stands approximately 2m high.
The neck and lid of the urn show signs of weathering. The west face of the plinth has what appears to be the letter 'A' of a very worn inscription. It cannot be stated whether the ornament could be a monument bought from the auction at Stowe or a reproduction of a garden ornament brought from elsewhere.
{2} Monuments from Stowe House were sold at auction in 1921 and were erected at Wood Burcote Court.
