Summary

Geophysical survey of land as part of a proposed planning application identified a number of anomalies of potential archaeological significance. Full Description

{1} Geophysical survey undertaken as part of a proposed planning application identified a number of anomalies of potential archaeological significance. There was a sub-circular ditched enclosure, about 90m across, with several internal features defined by ditches or gullies. The morphology of the site would be consistent with an iron Age date. It is represented by relatively weak and fragmentary anomalies, which suggests that it may have suffered some damage when the golf course was landscaped. There were some poorly diagnostic linear anomalies were present in field 1. They could represent ditches but it is equally possible that they represent field drains, plough marks or other non-archaeological features.

{3} Ten trial trenches were excavated in an area of land formerly developed for use as a golf course in the late 20th century. No archaeological
features were found and there was evidence of extensive modern disturbance across the area of investigation.
