Full Description

{1} Identified by South Northamptonshire Council as being a building of historic and/or architectural significance.

{2} Record for No 1 Church way: Analysis & photographs.

A three bay building of stone, with a slate roof and leaded light casement windows. Three bays with a two storey extension to the rear of the southern bay. This building was extensively refurbished in the 1970s, which included replacement of floors and ceilings. On the gound floor a portion of the original spine beam has been reset transversely. This necessitated shortening it. The stepped run-out stops may have been recut at the southern end. At the northern end 'stops' have been cut off and glued into place on the end of the beam.

The front of the property shows evidence of more than one phase. The date-stone represents a refurbishment or potential rebuilding at that time. A straight joint to the 1799 bay extends only to a line just above the door and window lintels. This may imply an earlier phase when part of the building was single storey only. The re-set beam has a form which would accord with a 17th century date.
