{?} See also possible Whittlebury Manor site at Lordsfields Farm to north of village.
{1} The area was largely royal forest in the 12th century, and, since King Athelstan is recorded holding a council at Whittlebury in AD 930, it may have been in royal hands from the 10th century or earlier.
{11} One of 12 medieval villages investigated intensively as part of the Whittlewood Project, site of an Anglo-Saxon burh.
