Full Description

{1} Plain functional building with 4 north facing lights and a later extension. Large element survives, but extension may have replaced small element of the building.

{2} Single storey early C20th north-lit buildings surrounded the base of the older building. The structures were standard brick skin with metal roof structure and supporting columns. Some areas seemed to incorporate older brick structures. The only part of the building for which it was possible to confirm a use was the area containing rotating drums which, judging by the pale blue colour of the deposits on the machinery, were used for chrome tanning. Another area may have been a space for samming machines (for reducing water content and smoothing) and cutting machines (that determine the thickness of the leather). Modern warehouse space was found to the northern end of the building. The Irchester Road frontage contained offices and boardrooms, although at the eastern end a range of northlit factory buildings also formed part of this frontage.
