Full Description

{1} Each of the three trial trenches revealed a sequence of layers containing medieval and post medieval pottery. The area lies just outside the concentration of known pottery kilns which formed the core of the industry. By contrast there are few ceramic finds from the immediate vicinity and no significant archaeological remains or finds were recovered pertaining to the medieval pottery or iron industry of Stanion.
At the southernmost end of Trench 2 the remains of a limestone wall was located, which contained medieval and post medieval pottery and animal bone. The wall measured c.1m wide x 0.3m deep. The wall foundation was aligned with the privet hedgeline to the east and and may therefore represent an earlier property boundary.
