Full Description

{1} Linear positive anomalies are present at the north and centre of the survey area. These are characteristic of those caused by cut and infilled ditches. The western part of the intermittent southern ditch is only tentatively identified. The anomalies are interpeted as segments of relatively recent agricultural boundary/ drainage ditches.

Trial trenching revealed a segment of an ENE-WSW aligned V-shaped ditch. It had been truncated by recent ploughing and survived best in trench 4 where it was 1.89m wide and 0.65m deep. Dating evidence was not recovered. The ditch ran along the southern side of the plough headland (HER ref 6415/0/16) but it is unlikely that these are contemporary features. The ditch probably identifies a phase of post medieval inclosure which incorporated a pre-exising land division.
