Full Description

{1} There are slight traces of earthworks in the park itself in the form of linear boundaries running at right angles to the line of the High Street. These could be the degraded remains of the long, narrow property boundaries running back from the street. It is possible that these features are no more than garden features dating from the post medieval period, but they could be medieval features which have survived because the area has escaped subsequent development.

{4} The existing Brackley Park was created out of a close and three tenements during the C19th. It has been suggested that slight traces of linear earthwork boundaries running perpendicular to the High Street survive in the park.
No archaeological remains were revealed pertaining to the close and tenements known from historic records. The limited nature of the ground disturbance restricted the level of archaeological observation. As such the present work does not rule out the possibility of these surviving earth-cut features within the park.
