Full Description

{1} Brackley Park stands opposite the Manor House in Brackley High Street, which separates the two. The 1.22 hectares of the park formed part of the grounds of the Manor House in the post medieval period. The large cedars along the terrace on the eastern side of the area presumably formed part of the C19th planting of the area. At the northern and southern ends of the park, which is mostly mown grass, are small patches of scrub woodland between iron fences on the park side and the boundary walls of the property. More recent plantings include a row of trees parallel with the roadside wall, some of which have been felled leaving stumps and one hole where a stump has been removed. At least two stumps of large trees remain further into the park.
There are childrens’ swings in the south-east corner of the park and a memorial planting in the north-east corner.
The report includes documentary evidence of former land ownership and management recommendations.

{4} The existing Brackley Park was created out of a close and three tenements during the C19th, when it became part of the grounds of the Manor House. It has been suggested that slight traces of linear earthwork boundaries running perpendicular to the High Street survive in the park.
