Full Description

{1} Two ditches and a hearth were recorded during the trial trench excavation. Pottery from the ditches dated to the 11th and 12th centuries. A relatively large quantity of charred grain was present within the hearth fill.

{2} Three ditches, two of which appeared to be associated and were perpendicular to each other. At least one of the ditches had previously been sampled during the preceding evaluation. The third was on a different alignment to either of the other two. Pottery from the ditches dated to the 11th and 12th centuries. A small assemblage of charred seeds was also recovered, likely to be the result of scattered midden waste or agricultural refuse. The ditches may plot or tenement boundaries and may be associated with the manorial site.
