Full Description

{1} In one of the two trial trenches excavated in 2015, there was a spread of stony material containing residual early medieval pottery, late medieval pottery, CBM of late medieval date, animal bone, and two metal items including an iron ring fitting. The pottery appears to be of an entirely domestic nature, whilst the CBM produced unglazed floor tiles, known to exist from late medieval buildings within the region, and a glazed triangular ‘infill’ floor tile also typical of the late medieval period. Above this, a further deposit comprised compacted stone (Marlstone Rock) containing post-medieval pottery, clay pipe and glass.

The demolition deposits containing late medieval-post medieval finds indicate the existence of buildings either on the site itself or in close proximity to it.
