Full Description

{1} Parts of the northern, southern and eastern boundary walls of the former kitchen garden still survive. North of the garden walls is a curving boundary wall was also associated with Harlestone House. Both the kitchen garden and curving walls were probably added as part of Humphrey Repton's suite of improvements to the estate in the early 19th century. Certainly it was present by 1829 when it appears on a plan for an estate sale. The accompanying catalogue describes it as an ornamental and very productive garden with a range of hot and succession houses, an ornamental pavilion in the centre, sheds in the back and gardener's rooms.
{2} Archaeological observation of groundworks identified gravel paths and bedding trenches associated with the former kitchen garden.
