Site of the former early 18th century country house. Probably at least partially demolished during the 19th century. Finally demolished in 1939.

Full Description

{1}The cellar of Harlestone House was exposed during building of new golf clubhouse; cellar extended full length of main house range; comprised limestone walls & floors with mouldings; house was demolished in 1939/40 & cellar filled in. The construction of the club house has totally removed what remained of the cellar;

{2}House not published; survey report in NMR;

{3} "Hall & Harlestone Park Lodges"; 3 small but detailed sketches of buildings;

{4} Harlestone House demolished 1939/1940; ground plan of house & offices & stables & gardens etc at Althorp;

{6} signed by Humphrey & John Adey Repton 1808-11;House c.1820?; demolished 1940;

{9} Harlestone House is one candidate for Jane Austen's Mansfield Park. The house, demolished in 1939, was almost certainly originally built to designs by Francis Smith of Warwick, hence the Andrew monument in the church. At its demolition, a carved board dated 1728 was found.
