Monument record 6315/0/3 - Middle Bronze Age cremations, Nortoft Lodge

Excavation in 2006 identified a cluster of three cremation burials interred within circular pits. Two were of adults and one was a child aged 7-13 years. Three other pits contained no human remains, but may have been truncated cremation burials or associated features. One of the adult burials was radiocarbon dated to 1430-1290 cal BC.

{1} Excavation in 2006 revealed a cluster of three Middle Bronze Age cremation burials in small pits. The remains from two of the burials each belonged to a single adult whilst the third were of a child aged 7-13 years. A human bone fragment from one of the adults was radiocarbon dated to 1430-1290 cal BC (SUERC-50372; 95.4% probability). Three small pits were found in the vicinity of these cremation burials. All were similar in shape, but somewhat smaller. Although these pits contained charcoal, there were no human remains; they may have been truncated cremation burials or associated features.
