Full Description
{1} Letter regarding the discovery of a 'mass of Roman pottery' by metal detectorists on a development site. Analysis of the finds by the author indicated the presence of a kiln nearby since there were about a dozen kiln plate pieces and a stacking ring in the assemblage. The pottery appeared to all be of a late 2nd/early 3rd century date. A site visit did not identify any features as the area had already been tarmaced, but the description of the features by the detectorists suggests the possible presence of a ditch and 'settling tank'?
[may be associated with the 2nd century AD pottery kiln excavated to the west in 2000]
