Full Description
{1} Former icehouse located in woodland to the north of Hothorpe Hall. It is not shown on any Ordnance Survey maps, so date of construction is unknown. However, archaeological observation undertaken during the construction of a car park in 2015 revealed the northern passage which was constructed from bricks that were likely to be 19th-century in date. The main chamber of the ice-house is visible as a distinct mound with a central depression; the mound likely to be spoil from the excavation of the chamber. The icehouse was in a dilapidated state when Hothorpe was purchased in the 1980s and was backfilled due to health and safety concerns.
