Full Description
{1} Archaeological observation of groundwork on land north of Watering Lane identified a number of linear boundary ditches and a small number of postholes dating to the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD.
{2} Archaeological observation of groundworks associated with the construction of two new dwellings identified Roman features in Areas 3 and 4. There were two arms of a probable Roman enclosure containing several sherds of 1st-2nd century pottery. A small posthole contained 2nd-3rd century pottery. Linear gullies were also identified. Residual late Iron Age pottery from the features suggests activity of this date on or near the site.
A curvilinear ditch, probably of an enclosure, was identified in Area. A single sherd of 12th century pottery was recovered from the fill along with animal bone and a fragment of tap slag. Fragments of a drystone wall in Area 4 were likely to be post-medieval.
