Full Description

{1} A trial trench excavation identified remnants of medieval furrows, a series of post-medieval features and a large quarry pit. Much of the pottery recovered reflected a late 18th century or later date for the activity although hints at earlier occupation came from several 17th-century wares and a small amount of late medieval pottery. A bone pin, possibly of medieval date was also recovered. Subsequently two strip, map and sample areas were excavated. Further quarry pits, an undated posthole and a stone-capped drain. Post-medieval and modern pottery was recoved from the drain and it is likely that it was associated with cottages that were demolished in the second half of the 20th century.
