Summary

Archaeological investigation identified ditches that are likely to be part of a field system associated with settlement to the east. A Roman cremation burial was also found.

Full Description

{1} Two trial trenches were excavated to the west of the known Iron Age/Roman settlement. Ditches were identified in both trenches. A posthole was also found. Small quantities of Iron Age pottery were found in the ditch fills. These features may relate to farmland which would have supported the settlement. A cremation burial was found in close associaton with the field boundary ditches. Nails dating to the early Roman period were found in the cremation fill.

{2} Iron Age pits were identified in two trial trenches to the north-west of the main area of settlement
