Abstract/Summary
In November 2019 an archaeological trial trench evaluation was carried out by MOLA (Museum Of London Archaeology) Northampton for the RPS Group (formerly CgMs) on behalf of their client Persimmons Homes on land at Towcester South. A total of nine trial trenches were excavated. Archaeological remains comprising ditches, pits, a gully, a posthole and a cremation deposit were identified in Trenches 13, 19, 20 and 21; four of these pits had limestone bases. All dateable features were late Iron Age. These features likely represent peripheral activity associated with a late Iron Age and early Roman settlement located to the east of the development area. Post-medieval ridge and furrow were investigated in Trenches 13 and 20.
