Full Description

{1} Archaeological evaluation and observation was undertaken during residential development on land to the rear of High Street. A large pit or well was identified in trench 1 and was c4.3m long and 1.2m wide. It was excavated to a depth of 1.6m below ground level and a further 1m of fill was identified by auger without the base being revealed. Sherds of 9th to 11th century pottery were recovered from the earliest excavated fill. Significant truncation was observed across the remainder of the site and it is considered that less ephemeral features would not have survived.
