Full Description

{1} SP 885680. Roman road section excavated in Freeman's Endowed School garden. A distinctive agger with side ditch full of sandy gravel was found below made-up ground. Some large white stone survived but the top was badly ploughed away. This confirmed an alignment from SP 912687 to Mears Ashby forming part of a road following the high ground north of the River Nene. Another section was earlier noted north of Mill Road at SP 902684 but it was too badly ploughed to be certain.
[Extensive archaeological investigation on the east side of Wellingborough has found no further evidence of this road alignment].
