Description
{1} A geophysical survey was undertaken over c70ha of land to the east of Wellingborough using Bartington magnetometer carts. Two extensive areas of archaeological remains were identified, both likely to be late prehistoric to Roman in date. A Roman road was traced intermittently over more than a mile, and elsewhere there were a number of linear ditches and two pit alignments. The survey also mapped parts of several backfilled quarries and former tramways of the late 19th-early 20th century ironstone industry. A large palaeochannel, perhaps Pleistocene in date, was also present.
