Full Description

{1} Archaeological trial trench excavation was undertaken in 2021 ahead of proposed development. A small sunken-featured building (SFB) and ditch dating to the Saxon period were identified in one trench. Further undated ditches, probably forming at least one enclosure, were identified in an adjacent trench and may date to the same period. Pottery from the SFB and ditch is broadly of the early-middle Anglo-Saxon period. The extent of the activity dated to this period is unknown because none of the features were identified during the preceding geophysical survey {2}.
