Full Description
{3} Archaeological evaluation on the corner of St James' Road and Ransome Road identified an infilled water channel, potentially one of the streams shown on Speed's map of 1610. The latest phase of the channel was 4m wide and 1.5m deep backfilled with a grey clay. This overlay a wider channel which was infilled with a thick layer of silt at least 11m wide and up to 0.7m deep. Pottery from this layer dated from the mid 12th to the 15th century.
