Monument record 5003/2/17 - Ice House, Delapre Abbey
Please read our guidance about the use of Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Ice houses were most commonly constructed on large estates during the 18th century and usually comprised a domed structure with an underground chamber. There was an ice house at Delapre located in a separate enclosed area in the parkland to the south-east of the house and adjoining walled garden. The enclosure is marked on historic maps from at least the start of the 19th century and disappears in the first half of the 20th century. The superstructure of the ice house is no longer visible, but the underground chamber may survive.
