Full Description
{1} Desertion of the village was related to emparking in 1499; the manor house stood south of the church.
{2} Easton Neston DMV SP 703493. This village was taxed with Hulcote (which survives). A small park was created c 1500 when 64 acres of arable and pasture were enclosed, and a further 24 acres of arable converted to pasture. Only the mansion and church remain. No visible remains were visible on the ground in 1958 (neither is anything visible on APs).
{3} Easton Neston, first mentioned in 1086 when the Domesday Book lists two small manors there with a recorded population of 14. Noted in Nomina Villarum, 1316, but thereafter taxed with Hulcote. In 1377 the Poll Tax was paid by 117 people over the age of 14 in the two villages. Probably deserted after 1499 when a small park was created by Sir Richard Empson. In 1523 and 1525 33 and 29 people paid Lay Subsidy Tax respectively. It is presumed that the manor house was demolished in the late C17th when the present house was built. Remains are fragmentary and in poor condition, much damaged by landscaping. Visible on APs {12}.
{6} The village was noted in 1316 but thereafter taxed along with Hulcote.
{7} Documentary references to the deserted medieval village at Easton Neston; at the 1086 Domesday Survey it comprised two small manors and a population of 14.
