Full Description

{1} No evidence found for occupation of area before rebuilding of Old Rectory in 1717 by Sir James Burrough for Peter Needham, indicates medieval tenements absent along west side of the road to Raunds. Irregular hollows in the south-west part of the Glebe suggest the presence of limestone quarries. Limited excavation revealed two pits at least 1.3m deep. Each contained a single sherd of late medieval Oxidised ware and small quantities of medieval pottery. A 15th-or 16th century date is therefore possible, but the absence of modern finds does not preclude a more recent origin for the pits.

{2}Post medieval quarrying, evaluation by S Parry.
