Full Description

{1} Probable late Saxon origins. Expansion during the Middle Ages when the back streets and lanes were added. Gradual shrinkage in the C14th/15th. Some parts continued in use as shown on maps of 1827 and 1838. Since then the modern village has grown to infill spaces. Some of the original streets now form green lanes. The single house shown on the 1663 map is probably a lodge and relates to the early inclosure of Eastfield. Farms within the village may suceed the medieval holdings.
