Monument record 1660/0/1 - Roman Coin Hoard

Findspot of a Roman coin hoard uncovered by a metal detector in 1988 at Fotheringhay Lodge Farm. It consisted of 45 denarii ranging in date from Domitian to Marcus Aurelius, AD 81-165/6. A late 2nd century hoard possibly associated with the nearby settlements TL 09 SE 50 and 51.

{1} Finds of October 1988 from metal detecting. Around 45 Roman denarii of the C1st to C2nd (Domitian to Marcus Aurelius) originated from an area of 50ft x 10ft in the south-east corner of the field, within 3ins of the surface. R. Moore at Northampton Museum to identify.

{2} A hoard of 45 Roman denarii was found in October 1988 by metal detector. The coins were found in an area "c. 17m x 3m". They range in date from Domitian, BMC 164, struck in AD 90 to Marcus Aurelius, BMC 406, struck in 166. The coins were declared Treasure Trove at an inquest held at Kettering on 11th May 1989. Apart from three coins retained by the British Museum, the hoard was returned to the finder.
