Full Description

{1} Fotheringhay Lodge Complex. In spite of frequent air photography over many years, only part of the site is ever visible form the air, and it probably extends on either side of the crest. The major part of the site comprises a large Roman village with a main 'street' or trackway running through it; the village mainly lies within Nassington parish, but extends southwards into Fotheringhay. There are also many ring ditches within the complex, most of which are considered to be former barrows (see Mon 2698), but some may be hut circles associated with the Roman settlement.
The most prominent feature is a long, ditched trackway, running north-south, with enclosures or paddocks on either side, many of which are not completely visible on aerial photographs. In the northern half of the settlement, in Nassington parish, there are a number of ring ditches (see Mon 2698), at least one of which may be a hut circle.

{3} (TL 076953) Circular crop marks and enclosures seen on APs.

{4} These marks {3} are located along and just above the edge of the river terrace. At present under crop but as far as could be seen no surface undulations mark the site, and no finds have been reported.
