Glapthorn settlement remains suggest village shrinkage. Earthworks south of the church including a hollow way and at least three closes.

Full Description

{1} Buildings shown on post-medieval map;

{2} Settlement remains formerly part of the southern nucleus of Glapthorn village lie to the south of the church. The earthworks consist of a well-marked hollow-way running east to west immediately south of and parallel to the present gardens with, on its south side, traces of at least three closes bounded by shallow ditches or low scarps. Some indeterminate earthworks lie to the west.

{3} Survey of the earthworks has revealed a hollow way, with building plots and a boundary ditch; plan;

{4} Earthworks of possible medieval/post-medieval platforms, houses, closes and hollow way. Possible cases of expansion of ridge and furrow over small tenements on part of south area;
