Full Description
{1} Cropmarks. A series of rectangular enclosures with internal features including the ring ditches of probable hut circles. Two pit alignments cut across the site. The enclosures extend into the north-west corner of the field to the south of the main group. NCCAP:8673/001-16+25+26+29.
{2} Extensive cropmarks recorded by R.Hollowell showing hut rings and rectangular enclosures.
{3} Indistinct cropmarks suggesting a group of oval and rectangular enclosures.
{4} Iron Age and Roman settlement and pit alignments (SP 867737) in the W of the parish, on limestone at 90m above OD. Air photographs (in NMR) show a series of rectangular and irregular ditched enclosures with various interior featres, including some apparent hut-circles and pits. Two pit alignments cut obliquely across the site. Several sherds of Roman pottery were found on the edge of the site in 1966. Later field-work produced a wide scatter of Roman pottery and a small area with allegedly hand-made Iron Age pottery on it. Some worked flints were also discovered.
{7} A rectangular enclosure was photographed from the air at SP 867737, by R Hollowell. Several Romano-Brtish coarse ware sherds were found along a lynchet at SP 867737.
{8} Mr J.R Fox confirmed the site and stated that the finds, which he retains, were made from 1967 onwards. He also has IA potsherds from this site which is now under crop; no surface remains were seen. Print of Hollowell's photograph attached. It confirms the siting in 1.
