Abstract/Summary
An evaluation of the archaeological importance of the Upton area was commissioned as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the proposed development of the South West District of Northampton. The proposed development area covers c.100ha and comprises almost the whole of the historic parish of Upton. It is bounded to the north by Berrywood Road, which preserves the line of the former road between the Roman towns at Bannaventa, near Whilton Lodge, and Duston. From here the ground slopes down from c.115m above OD to c.65m above OD by the River Nene which forms the southern boundary of the development.
