Full Description

{1} Excavation in 1966 uncovered a 2nd century Romano-British farmstead of timber and stone with finds of Roman-British pottery sherds, Samian vessels, tiles and quern stones. The site had been previously partially excavated, by the farmer Mr Harker, in c.1955. Info: D.N. Hall 12/12/1979.

{2} A small excavation led to the discovery of C2nd foundations of timber and stone.

{3} An area excavated in 1966 by Kettering Grammar School Archaeological Society. Traces of a C2nd farmstead of timber and stone. Romano-British and samian ware was recovered. Classified by Kettering Museum.

{4} Trial trenches dug in 1966 by members of the Kettering GS Local History and Archaeological Society on land which had yielded surface indications of Romano-British occupation produced traces of a C2nd farmstead of timber and stone construction. Pottery finds consisted mainly of locally made brown corky coarseware, together with two samian vessels (both Form 33). One of these was almost complete and bore the potter's mark of Cintvgenvs of Lubie (Period Trajan/Hadrian). Also found were considerable remains of a millstone, now on display in the Museum of Milling at Billing; the other finds have been deposited in Kettering Museum.

{7} No further information is available on the Romano-British farmstead excavation by Kettering Grammar School Archaeological Society.
