Summary

Sulby Hall was an 18th-century house and demolished in 1953 leaving parkland which included an ornamental bridge, a lake and a walled kitchen garden with Head Gardener's Cottage. Since the 1970s, restoration of the walled gardens has been ongoing and a wild garden has been created.

Full Description

{1} Survey of Sulby 1582 "The site of the house with the grounde called the home grounds and the poole."

{4} Inclosed lordship was divided into Old Sulby and Sulby Abbey (formerly called Little Sulby). Present possessors of estates Mr Waforn of Old Sulby, Sir Edward Nicholls, Mr Temple of Sibbertoft, Mr John Paine of Welford, Mr Peyto and Mr Tuckfield of London; the last two hold the most considerable estates here.

{5} A major restoration project of the walled garden has been ongoing since the 1970s and a wild garden has been created with purpose-built ponds and wildlife friendly planting regime. The old Ice House has been dug out and renovated.
