Full Description

{1} Remains of walls, footings and demoition debris. These are very crudely built suggesting that they are more likely to be property boundaries than buildings. Pottery underlying the foundations suggests the walls were built during the expansion of Brackley during the C12th and C13th. The excavation confirmed that the site was cleared again by the C14th and remained as garden or orchard until recent times.

{2} An evaluation was carried out on a vacant site north of Magpie Lane. Evidence was found in the form of boundary walls, of the west end of two plots, fronting onto Bridge Street to the east. Dating evidence from the walls and overlying deposits indicate that the walls relate to the short lived development of the area in the C12th and C13th.

{4} Evidence from the watching brief suggested that the walls cut into a post medieval layer; if this is the case then they do not represent medieval boundaries but possible later land divisions.
