Full Description
{1} Survey of 1321 refers to the New Tower as needing repair; mentioned along with six small towers along circuit of castle wall thus suggesting it was also located along wall; its most likely location is on west side of inner bailey where tower shown in 1610; possibly accounts for massive buttresses recorded on outside of west wall in 1879; if this location is correct then "new" tower would have been built in late C13th following collapse of west wall in 1266.
