Description

{1} The areas which were investigated were situated midway between Marefair and St Peter's Street and comprised the yards and gardens of medieval and later properties fronting onto the two streets. The western part of the site was excavated as a series of small trenches (V-Z) ranging in size from 16-130 square metres. It was decided that, for trenches V-z, that the medieval levels should be summarily treated in order that the largest area of Saxon occupation be exposed within the time and financial constraints provided. Trench AA was stripped to within a few centimetres of the late Saxon deposits.
