Full Description

{1} Boundary bank and ditch forms a reverse S curve east to west between built up areas. The bank is substantial with quite a deep ditch to the north. The feature has been overlain in parts by barn, golf course earthworks etc. It is depicted on a dotted map of the area marked Old Inclosures (on mid 18th century enclosure award map for Kingsthorpe). Possibly constructed to protect fields from rabbits and deer coming out of Moulton Park and adjacent warrens (16th century reference in VCH to problems Kingsthorpe villagers were having with rabbits).

{2} Further NGR's for this monument have been given SP76186366 to SP76376369 to SP76746363 in Bradlaugh Park.

{3} It is a camber 8-10metres wide, in three segments, the middle alignment taking the most direct crossing of an intervening ridge and valley, while avoiding a ridge east of the valley, that rises northwards from the crossing point. It is followed by part of its length by a boundary bank and ditch shown on the Kingsthorpe Inclosure map on the area designated 'Old Enclosures' where there appears to have been a warren. The writer suggests that the alignment shows a possible Roman road connecting Duston to Irchester.

{4} Earthwork aligned approx east-west is visible on lidar imagery.
