Monument record 1160/319/1 - Possible post-medieval building, Wellingborough Road

Watching brief undertaken in 1975 during the Exeter Road housing development found an undated wall and clay floor. There was no evidence of medieval suburban development.

{1} Ironstone wall & thick blue clay floor revealed on north side of Wellingborough Road/Exeter Road; late medieval/post medieval in date; alternative location of SP762613 given on site notes;

{2} Wall & clay floor; conflicting locational data given

{3} Watching brief in Exeter Road yielded no certain pre C19th features or finds;

{4} The majority of the site had been stripped of buildings and shallow foundations had been put down over much of the area, some service trenches also. Except for the apex between the Kettering Road and Wellingborough Roads the whole area showed nothing but 19th-century gardens, cellaring etc. On the Wellingborough Road frontage, there were ironstone wall foundations evident and associated with a thick blue clay floor. No sign of medieval suburban development.
