Site visible on aerial photographs as dark soilmark. Subsequent fieldwalking identified a thick scatter of Roman pottery and possible building stone DNH Database: Benefield/Site 11: Settlement (Significant find scatter)

Full Description

{1} Soilmarks visible on aerial photographs; dark soil and possible enclosures, though indistinct; G Foard (21/1/1980);NCCAP:SP9687/8+11+13;

{2} Fieldwalking survey in 1982; limestone rubble and Roman pottery including Samian and colour-coated ware; area defined;

{3} Large site with very dark soil, pebbles etc. Samian and colour-coated sherds, some as half vessels. Cannot have been ploughed in the Middle Ages. Lot of charcoal wood clearance patches of unknown date.

{5} A roughly circular area of black soil 25m in diameter is covered with lumps of limestone rubble and quantities of Roman pottery;
