Monument record 7754/1/19 - Canal lock no 17, Grand Junction Canal

Lock no 17 is the termination of the Northampton branch canal providing a link to the River Nene navigation. The canal was opened in 1815. Locally listed building.

{1}Canal lock with narrow channel adjacent to junction with river. The lock was constructed with red brick with Blue Engineering Brick used to repair the structure. Overflow drains were present along both sides west of the gates. Wooden and iron lock gate fittings. The eastern pair of the gates dated to 1893. There is curbing and iron and wooden mooring bollards to either side. Before this lock was present there were early gate slots recessed in side walls of lock (1860 map).

{2} Lock No 17 is the termination of the Northampton branch canal opened by the Grand Junction Canal Company in 1815. It still provides a connection with the River Nene navigation.
