Building record 2141/2/1 - Great Billing Hall

Buit in 1776. it was bought by the Elwes family in 1796 who lived there until 1931. The house was demolished in 1956.

{2} He hath here an handsome old house with pleasant gardens adjoining.

{3} Billing Hall, dating to 1776. Pre 1776 mansion.

{5} Billing Hall was the home of the O'Briens, Earls of Thomond in the C17. In 1776 it was bought by Lord John Cavendish who called in John Carr. The house had a plain nine-bay frontage. In 1796 the estate was bought by the Elwes family who resided there till 1931. it was tenanted until itas demolition in 1956. The interior was altered by E F Law in the 1860s and by Law & Harriw in 1924.
