Monument record 1621/0/7 - Romano-British Inhumation & Possible Ditches or Gullies

{1} An inhumation was found within a pit or ditch along with a sherd of colour-coated ware and ligula.

{2} In the northern area of the evaluation was found a single burial; almost certainly isolated. This lay outside the main domestic area of the town and in amongst gullies and ditches.

{3} Roman occupation with inhumation, possible Post-Medieval brickworks, evaluation by G Cadman.

{4} T2 contained a single Roman burial lying within a possible grave cut or ditch. A ligula and fragment of colour coat pottery (c.C2nd AD) were found adjacent. No evidence for further burials was found despite extensions of the trench northwards. Small gullies or ditches were also present within the eastern part of the trench.
