Abstract/Summary

In June 1988 in connection with road construction works (at Thrapston) a planning application was submitted for tipping on agricultural land adjacent to the A605. Evaluation of the archaeological impact of the proposed works was carried out prior to determination of the planning application. The evaluation site comprised the northern part and eastern side of a pasture field adjoining the A605, a lay-by on the latter marking the proposed point of access for a haul road. The site lies adjacent to the Roman ‘town’ of Titchmarsh, the site of earlier excavations; the centre of the field had been subject to quarrying as evidenced by a large depression. Medieval ridge and furrow was evident within the southern part of the field.
