Summary

Ruined remains of a Second World War air raid shelter to the South of Daventry Abbey. Only a remnant of the southern wall of the shelter survived in 1998

Full Description

{1}"An extensive sunken public air raid shelter from the second world war is recorded by Daventry Development Committee map of 1963" (site is land off Vicar Lane and Church Walk, Daventry). It is not clear whether any of part of the shelter survives.

{2}Remnants of WWII air raid shelter in SW angle of site under development at Church Walk, Daventry. The lower portion of the southern wall is only part surviving. 2 or 3 sides have been demolished in the recent past, and are now large blocks of concrete scattered close by. It was used until recently as a depot for pipes etc, and now has sleepers inserted into it to form a bay/s. Approx dimension of the groun level is 7metres x 12-13metres. The construction materials are of concrete and breeze blocks. The condition is very bad (almosat destroyed. The site is under threat (1998) of becoming a car park.,
