Full Description
{1}A wall ran north-east to the south -west across the foundation trenches towards the southern end of the new building on the north-eastern corner of the site. It had ironstone foundations with overlaying brick courses. This appears to be the remains of the north wall of a former post-medieval building. This building is not shown on the 1900 OS map but the presence of the brick courses over and ironstone foundation would suggest a probable C20th rebuilding on the foundations of an earlier structure.
The earliest deposit located in the developers foundation trenches was the soil horizon directly overlying the natural clays. No dating evidence was recovered, but its great thickness and homogeneous character suggest that it is most likely to comprise either garden soil and/or artificially made-up ground of post medieval date.
